Introducing our new course, "Cinematics In Unreal Engine," instructed by the accomplished artist, Calvin Romeyn. During this course, you will gain the skills Romeyn honed over a two-year period while creating his short film: "Firmware". By the end of the course, you'll be equipped to make your own short films in Unreal Engine.
Calvin Romeyn is a passionate storyteller who thrives on the challenges of complex technical tools in crafting his narratives. He specializes in creating films that feature cutting-edge VFX. Romeyn began his career at Image Engine in 2013 and later moved to ILM, where he spent five years as a lead compositor.
Today, he co-runs a studio called Niche VFX alongside a few partners.

This masterful magical effect is all about control. We will learn to manipulate particles, volumes and geometry with completely custom VEX code that can help you achieve any look.
In this effect I will show you how to break down a complex, layered effect into simple setups and how to maintain that all important sense of scale and explosive timing this epic shot requires.
One of the most common magical FX but difficult to get right. Together we’ll unpack how to spread decay maps naturally and how to use this to drive an eye-catching disintegration FX that feels weighty and believable.

I love creating and telling stories, and what better way to do that than with complicated technical tools that require constant troubleshooting and a life time to master! I love creating films that focus on cutting edge VFX.
I started my career at Image Engine in 2013, and eventually moved to ILM where I worked for 5 years as a lead compositor. Now, I run a studio with a few other partners called Niche VFX.
I always have at least one creative passion project brewing, but in my free time I enjoy playing the piano, motorcycling, and doing pretty much anything in the water. I live with my wife and two little boys in Maple Ridge, BC.
